Updated August 2020 Edition of the SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING book!

Learn Social Media Marketing for business step by step in this new, 2020 book on social media by Jason McDonald. Used in his classes at Stanford Continuing Studies, the Social Media Marketing Workbook has become a beloved classic among small business owners and marketing managers. Why? The reason is that this is one of the best selling social media marketing books, one that lays it out clearly step-by-step. The book begins with content marketing, proceeds through each major platform (such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube) and helps you to make a plan for how to market a business on social media.
The book is based on an analogy – that social media is like a party and that you are the ‘party thrower.’ You need content just as you’d need food and entertainment, you need a promotion strategy just as you’d need invitations, and you need a systematic understanding of each social platform, just as you’d need a lot of technical knowledge to throw a great wedding or a great corporate meet-and-greet. Indeed, you’ll be throwing a ‘party with a purpose,’ using social media marketing to build your brand and ultimately sell more stuff.
Compare the Social Media Marketing Workbook to other books out there on the topic. It plays well with Social Media Marketing for Dummies, for example, and is an excellent companion to more conceptual books like Crushing It or Building a StoryBrand. It’s the perspiration to their inspiration. It’s the zig to their zag, and it’s a book that gives you more than 500 social media marketing tips. It provides practical, hands-on knowledge for 2019 and 2020.
Got questions? Just Google the author, Jason McDonald, and send him a quick email or message. The book includes massive links, videos, resources, and an amazing companion toolbook with free social media tools. It’s a must buy book.

What a great resource book for marketing your business through social media. Author Jason McDonald has done a remarkable job of giving you everything you need for your business to succeed. He gives links to follow, resource references, videos, and a fabulous tool book that goes with it for all your free social media tools. This is a book you shouldn’t be without if you want to succeed. It’s the best-selling marketing book out there, and Author McDonald has done a great job of giving you step-by-step instructions. I love that the author compares social media to a huge party and you’re the host. In that analogy, content serves as the food and entertainment.

This book is easy to follow and it’s great for any beginner. Since I’m not familiar with every social platform out there, the author gave a super-fast intro to that platform. I for one am just one person looking to market my product, and the information contained in this book has helped me get going. If you’re an entrepreneur like me with a small business, this book’s definitely for you. If you want to learn the ropes quickly without all the hullabaloo associated with some of the ‘marketing gurus’ out there, you will do yourself a favor by purchasing this book. It will help you understand how the major social media platforms work and how to find your way around in them. You will have some ‘homework’ to do to help you figure out what you need to focus on.

Do yourself a huge favor and buy this book. If you’re serious about succeeding on the internet, you won’t be sorry.

I really enjoyed learning from this book. It has inspired me to kick start a social media foundation for a business I want to build in the future as well as focus more on my personal LinkedIn account. Jason really drove home the importance of social media in today’s digital world. He has convinced someone that once believed that one could win without social media into a total believer of the power of social media marketing. I believe that the skill of social media marketing is what the skill of using Microsoft office was some time ago. What once was optional will become an essential part of marketing and a necessity for any business large or small. Businesses will have to learn how to market on social media effectively to stay relevant and grow.

I absolutely love the analogy of social media to throwing a party. It’s perfect in every way. It makes social media marketing into something tangible that we all can understand. We’ve all either attended or hosted a party. We know what a good party and a bad party felt like. We know what it feels like to go to a party and can’t wait for the same person to throw another one. Really powerful thought. My only disagreement is I believe he sold Snapchat a little short. I feel like if social media is a party, Snapchat is like the invitations. I watch people mindless scroll through Snapchat and although it is difficult to track metrics, I believe that it has it’s value in social media marketing. Especially in swaying a group of friends to hangout in the same place in efforts to inflict FOMO on their friends with Snapchat stories and snap map. Other than that, he nailed the other platforms. Definitely worth your time whether you are familiar with social media or learning what a hashtag is. Jason dug deep and threw a wonderful marketing party for himself in this instructional workbook.

As a marketing student with zero social media knowledge (I’m not even on Facebook), I found this book while needing to come up with ideas for marketing across several social media platforms. Extremely well written! Simply and clearly written so that even I could set up social media campaigns well. This is such a helpful book! Thank you Mr. McDonald!

As a former Business Management teacher I wish I had this book to help me teach how to market your business using Social Media. I love the tips and exercises that help you understand HOW you should use Social Media and WHO your target market is. And as a small business owner, I will be implementing these with my business. The worksheets have you creating your posts for your business in no time at all. Love how the worksheets guide you through each step.

As you go through the book you will see WHAT you need to do to create posts for your business that not only attract your target market but keep them. Love this book and how it gets you thinking about so many things as Social Media has changed how people look for things, especially after a quarantine. I will definitely be using this book again and again as Social Media evolves over time.

I have used Facebook for connecting with family and friends, but never for promoting a service. I used LinkedIn to connect with business associates.
This book has broken things down in a way that has really helped me think through what I want to do, why I want to do and how to do it. There are so many worksheets associated with the book, and I strongly encourage you to take the time and complete them. A lot of thought was put into this book

As a first time “student” of social media marketing out of intrest and for own business marketing purposes, I highly recommend this workbook. It is an easy read to master the social media jungle with great examples of good social media content, strategies, toools, etc. Now it’s on me to apply all the knowlege:-)
